Disaster Relief funding update
Mr. Vacca reminded the Commission of the stakeholders meeting tomorrow (4/28/10) in Meeting Room A to discuss the options at Camp Kiwanee/Maquan Pond for the bridge. Mr. Hanscom will be there to present two different scenarios, one for a pipe and the other for a box culvert and the costs associated with each. An After the Fact NOI will be filed for the road and the control structure.
Also, the President signed a Declaration of Disaster for the affected counties from the floods. Mr. Vacca has been in contact with Rep. Daniel Webster’s office as well as Rep. Tom Kennedy’s office. It appears that money will be available for Camp Kiwanee at a 75% reimbursement rate, which means $30,000 if the project costs upwards of $40,000.
Mr. Kemmett questioned why the Town doesn’t follow the same procedure as required by everyone else and that the emergency situation at this point was dubious at best. Mr. Harris pointed out that there were other concerns, such as the fill brought in on either side of the road within jurisdiction. Mr. Schellenger commented that an After the Fact Notice of Intent was long overdue and what had already been done should have been addressed by now.
TRWA grant update (see letter)
Ms. Nehiley unhappily informed the Commission that the Taunton River Watershed Association did not offer a grant this year to Hanson for the creation of a “Blue-Way” along the Stetson Brook Corridor. There were a record number of requests for projects, over twenty-nine, but they were only able to fund twelve of them. Phil Clemons offered to carry out some of the legwork to get the project started regardless.
